Samsung washer4C
4C on a Samsung washer means water is not entering the washer correctly. Samsung’s checks, in order: hoses on the right inlets with no kinks, both water valves fully open, the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the drainpipe, a one-minute power reset, then clean inlet filters. If 4C continues, request service.
Samsung shows the same fault as 4E, nF or 1 4C depending on the model. A different code from the same family, 4C2, means the hoses are swapped; that one is covered below.
Which water code do you have?
| Code on the display | What Samsung says | Service needed? |
|---|---|---|
| 4C, 4E, nF, 1 4C | Water is not entering the washer correctly | Only if it continues after the checks below |
| 4C2, 4E2, CE, 14C2, nF1 | The water from the cold supply is extremely hot | No: swap the hoses |
| 1E, 1C, LE, LC | Moisture where it should not be, or the water level sensor | If no suds and the code continues |
| OE, 0E, OC, 0C | Too much water in the washer | Follow Samsung’s drain checks first |
If your code is in the first row, carry on below.
Samsung’s five checks
1. Hoses on the right inlets, not kinked
Pull the washer out. Hot goes to hot and cold to cold (Samsung says red to red, blue to blue), and neither hose should be bent sharply or crushed against the wall. Samsung also says not to use Flood Safe hoses.
2. Both water valves fully open
Turn each faucet all the way open. A valve shut for a vacation, or closed by a plumber, is the simplest cause of a fill code.
3. Drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the pipe
This sounds like a drain problem, but it causes fill codes. Samsung says to insert the drain hose 6 to 8 inches into the drainpipe. Pushed in deeper, water can siphon out while the washer fills. Samsung’s drain guide adds that the hose should not be sealed airtight into the pipe, and its end should sit between 18 and 96 inches above the floor (24 to 35 inches for a sink).

4. Power off for one minute
Unplug the washer, or switch off its breaker, for one minute, then restore power and try again. Samsung lists this step for 4C and most other codes.
5. Clean the inlet filters
Safety
Turn off both water valves and unplug the washer before you disconnect a hose. Have a towel and a small bowl ready for the water left in the hose.
Samsung says to disconnect the hoses, check the connections for debris and clean the filters if needed. The filters are small mesh screens in the inlets on the back of the washer, where the hoses screw on. Rinse them under a tap, refit them, reconnect the hoses, turn the water on and check for drips before you plug the washer in.
4C2: the hoses are swapped
Samsung lists 4C2, 4E2, CE, 14C2 and nF1 as a separate fault: the water from the cold supply is extremely hot. The fix is to connect cold to cold and hot to hot. Samsung says this code does not mean service is needed.
When 4C means a part
If water reaches the washer freely, the hoses and filters are clean and 4C keeps coming back, Samsung says to request service. Samsung’s code page does not name a part. The part that lets water into the washer is the water inlet valve, which sits inside the cabinet with wiring attached, so it is a technician job unless you are experienced and the washer is unplugged.
If a technician confirms the valve, order the one listed for your model number (how to find it).

Other brands use their own letters for the same kind of fault: LG shows IE, and Whirlpool front-load washers show F8 E1 (Whirlpool codes). For the other Samsung washer codes, see the Samsung washer code list. If the washer fills but stops with suds, the code is SUd.
Frequently asked questions
Is 4C the same as 4E on a Samsung washer?
Yes. Samsung lists 4C, 4E, nF and 1 4C together as one fault: water is not entering the washer correctly. Which one you see depends on the model's display.
What does 4C2 mean on a Samsung washer?
Samsung says 4C2 (also 4E2, CE, 14C2 or nF1) means the water from the cold supply is extremely hot: the hot and cold hoses are connected the wrong way round. Swap them, blue to cold and red to hot. Samsung says this code does not mean service is needed.
Can I use flood-stop hoses on a Samsung washer?
Samsung's washer code page, in its 4C section, says not to use Flood Safe hoses. Use standard hoses in good condition, connected hot to hot and cold to cold.
